Top 10 Critical Points for Purchasing Large-Part 3D Printers for Aerospace https://www.engineering.com/resources/top-10-critical-points-for-purchasing-large-part-3d-printers-for-aerospace/ Thu, 29 Aug 2024 15:35:13 +0000 https://www.engineering.com/?post_type=resources&p=131161 Pellet extrusion 3D printers offer significant performance advantages for aerospace manufacturers compared to conventional production techniques.

The post Top 10 Critical Points for Purchasing Large-Part 3D Printers for Aerospace appeared first on Engineering.com.

]]>

As 3D printing advances, aerospace manufacturers have become increasingly reliant on the technology for disparate production processes. In large-part production, for example, aerospace manufacturers can now print complex parts using simple designs that begin with minimal components, reducing the risk of part failure.

While 3D printing with plastic filaments offers a reliable method for small-part production, it represents a considerable cost for large-part production. As a result, major companies in industries ranging from aerospace and automotive to foundry and healthcare have adopted pellet extrusion 3D printing technology, which offers lower total cost for both ownership and part production.

Production-grade 3D printers with industrial control systems minimize machine downtime, speed up production, and reduce costs, but choosing the right solution can be daunting. The following guide presents 10 factors to consider when choosing the right solution for large-format part production.

In today’s rapidly evolving threat landscape, where cyber attacks and malicious software are becoming increasingly sophisticated, the importance of establishing clear and well-documented code signing policies cannot be overstated. These policies serve as a critical line of defense in safeguarding software integrity and ensuring that only trusted code is executed. However, navigating the intricacies of initiating this process can often seem like a daunting task.

Crafting a comprehensive and strategic code signing policy involves addressing various challenges, particularly in engaging busy developers who are accustomed to operating under tight deadlines. Convincing them to adhere to security measures can sometimes be met with resistance, as their primary focus tends to be on delivering results quickly rather than prioritizing security protocols.

This guide aims to provide a roadmap for organizations looking to implement effective code signing policies, drawing upon insights from DevOps experts and seasoned security professionals. By leveraging a combination of software tools, streamlined processes, and well-defined policies, organizations can establish robust security practices that span the entire software development lifecycle.

This guide, based on insights from DevOps experts and security professionals, provides a strategic approach combining software, process, and policy to ensure end-to-end security in signing practices. Learn today how you can prepare your teams and establish a strong security culture.

The advent of generative artificial intelligence (AI) as a consumer product has sparked excitement in virtually every industry and brought a new level of awareness of machine learning’s capabilities to the public. Now that generative AI is no longer confined to research labs and has entered the public square, it has sprouted into dozens of new applications and at least as many products. Generative AI could change how we interface with computers forever, and specific use cases are popping up constantly as Silicon Valley’s collective imagination runs wild.

It’s inevitable, however, that when a technology has this much hype, product designers, investors, and economic prognosticators alike get a little carried away in their excitement. While this is understandable, it’s not all that helpful for businesses and individuals looking to determine what this tech means for them, in the real world.

In this eGuide, we’ll provide a levelheaded, easy-to-understand overview of generative AI technology – what it is, where it came from, how it works, and what it can (and can’t) do. We’ll go over the considerations and responsibilities of any enterprise implementing generative AI, including how to access it, the risks and costs involved, and critically, the tasks at which generative AI excels. We’ll compare generative AI’s strongest use cases to problems that are still better suited to other kinds of machine learning algorithms and outline why it’s important to pick the right tool for the job. Finally, we’ll break down niche use cases industry by industry, highlighting opportunities in each field.

Design for Additive Manufacturing with FDR https://www.engineering.com/resources/design-for-additive-manufacturing-with-fdr/ https://www.engineering.com/resources/design-for-additive-manufacturing-with-fdr/#respond Thu, 11 Jan 2024 03:33:11 +0000 https://www.engineering.com/resources/931/ Fine Detail Resolution (FDR) technology is the only solution on the market that enables production of delicate parts without sacrificing quality. Learn how to unleash the power of FDR.

The post Design for Additive Manufacturing with FDR appeared first on Engineering.com.

]]>
Fine Detail Resolution (FDR) functions in a manner very similar to Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), but at a much greater level of precision. The 55 watt CO laser type creates an ultra-fine beam with a focus diameter of 200 μm, about half the size of those seen in current SLS 3D printing systems. The thinner laser beam helps to create new exposure parameters, resulting in the development of super-fine surfaces. It is ideal for 3D printing applications involving delicate structures, those requiring tiny surface details and those designed with ultra-thin wall thicknesses, offering dimensional accuracy down to +/- 40 microns.

Thus far, the FDR process has been qualified for use with PA 1101 polymer. This Polyamide 11 (PA 11) material, commonly known as nylon, is processed in layer thicknesses of 40 μm. It‘s a sustainable material that is made entirely from renewable castor beans. Also, it is both chemically and mechanically heat-resistant, making it ideal for highly technical applications thanks to its durability.
